Window cleaning estimate template with a filled example

A window cleaning estimate should count the panes or windows by floor, say inside and out or outside only, and list screens, tracks and anything excluded. This example prices 28 panes inside and out at $8 and 14 screens at $3. Hard-water removal, skylights and construction residue are quoted separately.

Example: a two-story home, inside and out

28 panes at $8 inside and out, the rate Applewood Exterior and A Perfect View publish, plus 14 screens at $3.

Window panes, inside and out: 28 panes × $8 = $224.

Screen washing: 14 screens × $3 = $42.

Total before tax: $266. No deposit. Payment due when the windows are done. Late fees: none.

How do you count the windows on an estimate?

Count by floor and by type: standard panes, French or divided-light panes, sliders and anything above the second story. Write the count on the quote (“28 panes, 10 on the second floor”) so the customer can check it and you can price the next visit from the same list.

Set your counting rule before you walk the house and put it on the quote: a double-hung is two panes or one window, a slider counts as two, a bay as three. A written rule settles the count before anyone argues at the door.

What should be included, and what should be separate?

Name sills, tracks and screens either way. Many companies include sills and a screen wipe in the inside-and-out price and charge for track detailing and hand-washed screens; hard water, paint and construction residue are quoted after you see the glass.

Put exclusions in plain words: “Hard-water stains are not included; if the glass needs restoration, we will show you before quoting it.” That sentence saves the conversation on the day.

What terms belong on a window cleaning quote?

How long the price holds, when payment is due and what rain does. Window work depends on the weather, so say that a rained-out day moves the visit, not the price. Note what you need inside: someone home, pets put away, a clear path to each window.

If the count comes in below your minimum, show the minimum as the visit price: “12 panes inside and out, minimum visit: $200.” The customer sees why the total is what it is.

Frequently asked questions

Can I give a price before seeing the house?

Give a range from the customer’s photos and window count, then confirm on arrival. HoneyBee Window Cleaning confirms its final price on arrival for the same reason.

Can I quote outside only and add the inside later?

Show both on the estimate as options and let the customer pick. Companies that publish both charge a median of about half again for the inside.

How long should the estimate stay valid?

Long enough to book around the weather. This example holds the price for 30 days.
