How Make This Useful handles your information

Private chat

Not saved to your chats. We keep it for 30 days for safety, then delete it.

What we collect

Account and contact details; authentication, account-membership, and support records; the requests and files you choose to submit; resulting work; billing and transaction state; security events; and operational records needed to run the service.

Technical data, cookies, and browser storage

Cloudflare and our hosting systems receive ordinary connection data, including IP addresses and browser headers. First-party cookies support sign-in, share redemption, and a 30-day sampler-abuse token set at sign-in or sign-up. If you make an advertising choice, a first-party preference cookie remembers it for up to 180 days. Optional advertising measurement is described below. Campaign choices and editable worksheet details can stay in browser storage for the current tab so work continues through sign-in. Worksheet contents are not put in URLs or telemetry and are not sent for generation until you submit an ask. Routine application logs contain normalized routes, status, timing, request IDs, and aggregate counts—not query strings, request bodies, cookies, authorization headers, or customer content. Restricted failure records may include pseudonymous job and payment identifiers. After sign-in, the browser may keep person- and account-scoped drafts, preferences, practice progress, and recoverable recordings. It may also keep read-only copies of recently opened chats for offline use; it does not cache account API responses.

Public pages

Public pages may include local examples and starter choices. They do not send those choices for generation, request microphone or camera access, or accept files. Sign-up and sign-in are the entry to saved working controls.

Why we use and disclose data

We use data to authenticate people, provide and store requested work, enforce account access, process billing, prevent fraud and abuse, keep the service reliable and secure, respond to support requests, meet legal duties, and improve the service using aggregate operational counts. Data may be disclosed to the service providers described below for those functions, to people you authorize through account membership or public sharing, or when reasonably necessary to comply with law or protect people, rights, and the service. Optional sharing with Meta for advertising measurement happens only with permission as described below. We do not install tools that replay your activity or run advertising scripts in private work.

How work is processed

Azure stores account data, work, and files. Cloudflare serves the website and forwards application requests. OpenRouter receives the material needed for an answer or picture plus pseudonymous request and Chat routing identifiers, then sends the request to the selected generation service. Server-side text, file, photo, image, and voice generation uses services marked for zero data retention and no provider data collection. Service routes are chosen on the backend. Request text is kept out of routine logs and product measurements. If you choose an offered third-party sign-in option, that provider handles the authentication details needed for that choice under its own privacy notice.

Files and photos

Files use a short-lived transfer link that works only for the selected file and account storage location. Uploaded files remain available in the account until removed. Photos also receive a resized, re-encoded copy with embedded metadata removed for generation and previews; the file originally uploaded may still contain metadata. Extracted text is stored for reuse. Selected excerpts, and pages that need OCR, are sent to generation providers only when needed for requested work. Generated pictures are stored as account files.

Voice

Recording saves recoverable audio and words in this browser, scoped to the signed-in person and account. Get transcript sends audio for transcription and gives you editable words. Record saves the corrected transcript as a reusable Page; uploaded Record audio remains available, while short Talk audio is removed from server storage after transcription. Using live words does not discard the only local audio copy. You can discard local recovery explicitly; signing out or removing the account also clears it. Optional live words use the browser’s speech-recognition service, which may process audio remotely under its own terms, separately from our server-side transcription.

Web checks and receipts

Web search starts on Auto: the service may look up current public information when your task needs it. In Add, open Web search and choose Never to skip web searches for that answer, or Always to request a check. Search and page services may handle the search words and public pages under their own terms. Search details identify searches that ran and any access limits. When a file or live web source materially contributes, the result includes a receipt that names what was used.

What Helper remembers

In What Helper remembers, you can review, change, share, or remove confirmed details. New details are personal unless you share them; they are not a public profile. We keep a version history while you retain a detail. Questions marked Find out later are not treated as known facts. Relevant details can be sent to generation providers for an answer. In shared chats, only material available to all participants is used.

Daily notes and notifications

Daily notes are optional and saved for the individual person, not the shared account. A Bible-verse choice may reveal a religious preference; it is used to provide that choice, not to personalize answers or advertising. If you enable phone notifications, we store the browser’s push subscription and send a generic availability notice through its push service. The notification does not include your daily note, requests, or files. You can change these choices in Settings under Notifications.

Billing

Stripe handles checkout, payment methods, invoices, and billing changes. We store plans, purchases, and available use, not full card numbers. Plan gifts retain the payment and claim records needed for delivery, refunds, and fraud prevention; an optional recipient email is matched using a protected hash. Gift links do not grant content access. Minimal records for paid, unclaimed gifts may remain after the buyer deletes an account so the recipient can claim the gift or the purchase can be refunded.

Email

Resend delivers sign-in codes and account invitations. It receives the email address and message details needed for that delivery.

Sharing

Inviting someone does not publish your work or give them access to new personal chats and details. Each person signs in separately; individual items have viewing, contribution, and management permissions. A personal chat keeps its audience when filed in a shared collection. Starting a shared chat keeps the original personal conversation separate; new people in an existing chat join from that point forward. Older account-shared items retain their shared audience. An optional public share link opens only the chosen read-only result snapshot, including identifying details already written in it, without source receipts or a separate filename list. You can remove people or revoke links. Share and gift pages are marked not to be indexed and are excluded from public sitemaps and page-view measurements. A successful Copy from a shared result or a completed shared activity adds a content-free use count for the sharing account. Print controls count intent, not a completed print. These counts contain no recipient identity, copied text, submitted answers, or link credentials, and create no tracking cookie. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control disable optional browser Copy and print measurements.

Retention, export, and deletion

Work remains while you keep it or the account. Exports include only content the requesting person can access. You can remove individual Pages, Chats, and confirmed details, or request account deletion. Removing a collection or section keeps its contents in the remaining filing structure or Unsorted; removing a Chat preserves separately saved results. Public snapshots should be revoked separately. New file lookups stop when access is removed, but a previously issued preview or download link may work for up to two minutes. Offline copies are cleared when the device next verifies a change in access or signs out; copies already downloaded elsewhere cannot be recalled. Production backups rotate within 35 days and are used for disaster recovery. Limited payment, fraud-prevention, security, and legally required records may be retained as needed.

Optional advertising measurement

Where this option is available, Allow shares visits to selected public articles and limited signup, use and payment events with Meta to help us measure and improve advertising. Reading and using the app remain available with sharing off. An answer appearing is not proof it was useful: activation records a defined edit, save or successful copy.

With permission, server events include a pseudonymous person identifier, event type and time, a public or normalized page address and, for a confirmed payment or refund, its amount, currency and opaque receipt. We may retain and share the genuine ad-click identifier supplied at the public entrance. We do not send your requests, document titles, files, source passages, email address or phone number to Meta through this integration. Automatic form project and advanced matching are off.

The optional browser script runs in an isolated empty document at the public article address. Loading it sends normal connection information to Meta, including an IP address and browser headers; Meta may recognize its own identifiers subject to your browser controls. The script cannot read your private app, account header or later navigation. It does not run on authentication, chat, source, gift or recipient pages.

Keep off withdraws permission for this browser and, after sign-in, ad events for you. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control also keep sharing off. Queued events are suppressed after withdrawal; a request already sent cannot be recalled. Changing your choice later does not send events that were suppressed while sharing was off.

Answer feedback and review copies

Helpful and Not helpful ratings, including optional notes, do not send a conversation copy to reviewers. You can separately choose unchanged question and answer excerpts to send, review the text and feedback together, and confirm that you are authorized to share them for answer improvement. Only eligible work can be submitted; a rating or source receipt does not grant access to your conversation or files.

Authorized MakeThisUseful knowledge reviewers can use the submitted copy for up to 30 days. Withdrawal or expiry removes its submitted text and reviewer access. Content-free status and decision history may remain. Manage or withdraw copies in Submitted answer reviews, including after you leave the account where you sent them.

Your choices and rights

Account controls let you download data, remove remembered details, revoke sessions and shares, manage Pages, and request deletion. You can also contact help@makethisuseful.com. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal data; object to or restrict some processing; appeal a privacy-request decision; or complain to a regulator. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.

Security

We use access controls, encryption in transit and at rest, private storage, short-lived file links, limited logging, and backup and recovery controls. No online service can guarantee complete security. Contact help@makethisuseful.com if you believe your account or data may be at risk.

Children

The service is for adults age 18 and older and is not directed to children. Children may not create or use an account. An adult account holder may choose to submit information about a child and is responsible for having the right to do so. Contact help@makethisuseful.com if you believe a child created an account or submitted information directly so we can investigate and remove it when required.

Operator and changes

The service is operated as Make This Useful. Privacy questions and requests go to help@makethisuseful.com. We may update this notice as the service or law changes. We will update the effective date above and present material changes through the service or account email before they take effect when required.
