What do published prices include?

Prices are in US dollars. Each row keeps the provider's unit and service area.

Is window cleaning priced per pane or per window?

Both, so count before you compare. A pane is one sheet of glass; a window can hold several, like the two sashes of a double-hung window or the grid in a French door. On HomeGuide's per-window band, 20 double-hung windows are $160–$320. At Squeegee Guys' per-pane price they are 40 panes and $500. Ask each cleaner to write the count on the quote.

Storm windows, French panes, skylights and glass over a porch roof can each have their own rate. Tell the cleaner which windows need a tall ladder, and whether someone will be home to open up for the inside glass.

What should a window cleaning quote include?

The glass count, inside, outside or both, the floors involved, and what happens to screens, sills and tracks. Wiping a sill takes seconds; scrubbing grit out of a clogged track is separate work. HomeGuide lists screen washing at $2–$5 per screen and windows above the second floor at $10–$40 per window. Ask for screens and high glass as their own lines so you can see what each adds.

Paint specks, mortar splatter, sticker glue and hard-water spots take scrapers and extra time. After construction, glass is quoted as its own job: Property Refresh in Chicago charges $8 per pane for standard panes and $15 per pane for large or storefront glass, with frames, tracks and heavy residue extra. Ask which marks the normal clean removes and which need a separate price.

How do I check the math on a window quote?

Multiply the count by the rate for each kind of glass, add screens and upper floors, then apply the visit minimum. At Squeegee Guys' outside-only pane price, 12 panes come to $90 and are billed at $149. Below 20 outside panes, the minimum sets the price.

Give a second cleaner the same count and the same list of sides and floors. If one quotes per window and the other per pane, ask both for a total on the same glass and compare the totals.

What should I ask before hiring a window cleaner?

Send this with photos of each side: Please quote cleaning the windows shown [inside and outside, or outside only]: about [number] windows, [number] of them above the first floor, plus [skylights, French doors]. How do you count panes? Are screens washed, and are sills and tracks wiped? Is there a visit minimum, and do you need someone home to let you in?

For a tall window over a roof or a planting bed, ask how the cleaner reaches it (a ladder, a water-fed pole from the ground or a lift) and whether that is in the upper-floor price.
