How should you structure your detailing prices?

Three or four packages, each priced by vehicle size. Most detailers publish an exterior, an interior and a full detail, with sedan, SUV or truck, and large SUV or van columns. Fresh Path in Richmond, Texas, publishes essential, premium and elite levels in all three sizes; Detail Theory in Dallas–Fort Worth a standard and a premium level.

Name what each package includes in plain words: hand wash, clay bar, steam, shampoo, sealant. The package names mean nothing to a customer comparing two businesses.

How much more should SUVs and trucks cost?

Usually $20–$50 per size step. 612 Auto Spa in the Twin Cities charges $200, $215, $245 and $300 for a full detail from sedan to large SUV; Chicago Mobile Detailing Experts $325, $365 and $450. The median SUV full detail is $270 against $240 for a sedan.

Price the third row and the cargo area as what they are: more carpet, more seats, more time.

How do you price interior-only and exterior-only work?

The interior is the dearer half. Interior details run a median $170 on a sedan and exterior details $95; Bell’s in Sacramento charges from $149 for an interior and $99 for an exterior wash.

Heavy pet hair, sand and stains are where interiors run long. Price them as add-ons or as a deeper package rather than absorbing the time.

What should ceramic coating and maintenance plans cost?

A multi-year coating on a sedan runs a median $749 among detailers who publish one, rising with the years promised: Bell’s charges $599 for three years and $1,299 for nine, Fresh Path $749 for three and $1,999 for ten. Say what paint correction is included; it is most of the work.

Maintenance visits for regular customers run much lower than a first detail: Spotless Mobile Detailing in Tallahassee charges $60 for a sedan and Diamond Finish on Long Island $160 for a monthly full detail. Require a full detail first, as most of them do.

How do you set your own detailing rate?

Time each package on your own sedan and SUV, multiply by what an hour of your time and van costs, add chemicals, water and travel, and divide by one minus your margin. The BLS May 2024 median wage for cleaners of vehicles and equipment was $16.96 an hour; your hour costs more than the wage once the van, insurance and unpaid drive time are in.

Then compare with the published medians. If your sedan full detail lands under $185, you are cheaper than about three quarters of these businesses.
