What do handymen charge per hour?

The median is $95 across 15 businesses. The low end is $60 at My Handy Hero in Orlando and Handy Dan in San Antonio; most sit at $80–$100, like Denver Handy Co. ($80), Rocky Ridge and Grandma’s Handyman in the Denver area and Tigard Handyman in Oregon ($95), and Boston Handyman Co. ($100). Servicebly in Philadelphia is highest at $118.

The Handy Geeks publishes $70–$160 for residential work in Los Angeles, the widest band here. Where your rate sits in a band like that should follow your own costs and the jobs you take.

Should the first hour cost more?

Many handymen build the trip into the first hour. GoldKey Repairs in the San Fernando Valley charges $150 for the first hour and $85 for each one after; a 30-minute job still pays $150. Others do the same with a minimum: Rocky Ridge charges $95 an hour with a $190 minimum, two hours’ worth.

Either way works if it is written on the quote. A customer who sees “$150 first hour, $85 after” understands why a ten-minute fix is not $15.

Is the rate per handyman or per crew?

Say which. JP Handyman in the Twin Cities bills $110 per worker-hour for its two-person crew, so an hour of the crew is $220. Denver Handy Co. and Tigard Handyman publish an hourly rate without saying whether it covers one person or a crew, which leaves the customer guessing.

Price helpers as their own line: “Two people, three hours: six worker-hours at $110.”

What about after-hours and weekend work?

Charge more and say how much. The Handy Geeks bills after-hours work at 1.25 to 1.6 times its rate and emergencies at 1.4 to 1.75 times; Superhandyman near Atlanta charges $110 an hour for evenings and Saturday rush work against $68 normally; Las Vegas Handyman Services sets a $200 after-hours minimum.

Two-hour minimums are common for hourly-only businesses: No Sweat! and Tigard Handyman in the Portland area both use one.

Three worked prices

Each price multiplies hours by a published hourly rate and applies the business’s minimum or first-hour rule.

Two hours plus a trip fee. Two hours at Grandma’s Handyman’s $95 rate plus its $50 trip fee.

Handyman labor: 2 hours × $95 = $190.

Trip fee: 1 visit × $50 = $50.

Example total: $240. Rate source: Grandma's Handyman Service: Aurora / Denver metro, CO prices, checked 2026-10-15.

A three-hour job with a first-hour rate. GoldKey Repairs’ $150 first hour and $85 for each hour after.

First hour: 1 hour × $150 = $150.

Additional hours: 2 hours × $85 = $170.

Example total: $320. Rate source: GoldKey Repairs: Los Angeles / San Fernando Valley, CA prices, checked 2026-10-15.

A two-person crew for three hours. Six worker-hours at JP Handyman’s $110 crew rate.

Two-person crew: 6 worker-hours × $110 = $660.

Example total: $660. Rate source: JP Handyman & Remodeling: St. Louis Park, MN prices, checked 2026-10-15.

Frequently asked questions

Is $100 an hour too much for a handyman?

Not on these lists: Boston Handyman Co. and Northwest Philly Handyman charge $100 and Servicebly $118. What the customer compares is the total, so give a time estimate with the rate.

Should I charge for drive time?

Either charge a trip fee or build it into a first-hour rate or minimum, but not nothing. Superhandyman charges no drive time and sets a $165 minimum instead.

How do I bill time in small increments?

Pick a rule and print it: JP Handyman bills in 15-minute steps after the first hour, and Northwest Philly Handyman to the half hour after its minimum.
