Gutter cleaning minimum charge: what to set and when it applies

Set a minimum near $150 for a single visit, then check it against what one stop costs you. Pristine North and Salva Home in Minnesota publish $150 minimums, Gutters First in Columbus and Sparkle Service on Chicago’s North Shore open their price lists at $149–$150, and Denver Gutter Company sets $350. Below the minimum, footage times rate does not pay for the trip.

What minimum do gutter cleaning companies charge?

Most published floors sit at $149–$150: Pristine North and Salva Home state a $150 minimum, and Gutters First and Sparkle Service start their cards at $149 and $150. Denver Gutter Company is the outlier at $350, which is also its lowest single-story price. Only Precision Seamless Gutters goes lower, at $100 for homes up to 1,200 sq ft with debris haul-off extra.

The two Minnesota companies that set minimums both price by the foot. That is the pattern to copy: a per-foot rate is fair on a long roofline, and the minimum stops a 60-foot ranch from coming out at $60.

How do you work out your own minimum?

Add up a stop with no gutter in it: the drive both ways, unloading, ladder setup and takedown, cleanup, the invoice and the follow-up for payment. Put a value on that time, add fuel and any dump cost, and that is the least a visit can cost you. The first worked price below does this at $60 an hour; use your own number.

Then compare with what nearby companies publish. If your floor comes out well under $150, check the hours again before you undercut; if it comes out higher, your minimum can be higher too. Denver Gutter Company’s $350 shows a company can publish a high floor and still list its prices openly.

When should the minimum apply?

Whenever footage times rate comes in under it: short ranches, detached garages, one blocked run, a return trip for a single downspout. Write it on the quote as the price for the job, not as an extra fee: “Garage gutters cleaned and flushed, debris hauled: $150.”

Keep one minimum for the visit rather than one per service. A customer who adds a downspout flush or a second building on the same trip should see those priced as work, because the trip is already paid for.

When should you waive or lower the minimum?

When the stop is already paid for: a garage cleaned on the same visit as the house, or a neighbor’s ranch on the same street that morning. Take the discount from the drive you save and leave the cleaning time priced.

Do not waive it for a first-time customer as a favor. A small first job at full minimum is still the cheapest way for that customer to try you, and it sets the price you will be quoting next fall.

Three worked prices

The first price adds up one stop’s cost at an hourly value we chose for the example; the other two apply a published $150 minimum when footage times rate comes in under it.

What one stop costs before any gutter is cleaned. Drive, setup and cleanup at $60 an hour, plus fuel. Your hours and rate will differ.

Drive both ways: 0.75 hours × $60 = $45.

Ladder setup, takedown and cleanup: 0.5 hours × $60 = $30.

Fuel for the trip: 1 trip × $12 = $12.

Example total: $87.

A detached garage on its own visit. 60 linear feet at Pristine North’s $1.00 single-story rate, with its $150 minimum.

Single-story garage gutters: 60 linear feet × $1 = $60.

Apply the $150 minimum instead of $60. Example total: $150. Rate source: Pristine North: Twin Cities pricing, checked 2026-10-15.

A small ranch. 140 linear feet at Pristine North’s $1.00 rate, with its $150 minimum.

Single-story gutters: 140 linear feet × $1 = $140.

Apply the $150 minimum instead of $140. Example total: $150. Rate source: Pristine North: Twin Cities pricing, checked 2026-10-15.

Frequently asked questions

Is a minimum charge the same as a trip fee?

No. A trip fee is added on top of the work; a minimum is the least a visit costs with the work included. The companies above use minimums, and none lists a separate trip fee.

Should the minimum be higher for a two-story house?

Rarely needed. Two-story work comes in above the minimum on almost any house because the per-foot rate is higher. Keep one minimum for the visit and let the two-story rate do the rest.

How do I tell a customer about the minimum?

Put it on the quote as the job price and say what it covers: “Detached garage gutters, cleaned and flushed, debris hauled: $150.” A short job priced as a full visit only needs explaining when the scope is vague.
