What should you record on the walkthrough?
Room sizes and ceiling heights, the surfaces the customer wants painted, current and new colors, and the condition of the walls. A voice note covers it while you walk: “Front bedroom, 12 by 14, 8 ft, walls and ceiling, cracked corner by the window, dark blue going to light gray.”
Note what is in the way: furniture, wall hangings, a piano, a bed that will not move. Those hours belong in the price.
How do you turn the walkthrough into a price?
Price each surface by the room or by area, add repair and prep, then check the total against the published prices for the same surfaces. The calculator does the arithmetic with your own costs and margin.
A dark-to-light color change needs a primer coat or a third coat; quote it, do not absorb it.
What should your follow-up text say?
Name the room, the work and a start date: “Hi Morgan, following up on the bedroom quote: walls, ceiling and trim, two coats, $1,005. I can start next Monday. Want me to hold it?” A real date gets a yes or no.
After the job, send the invoice with the color codes and a note on any touch-ups done at the walkthrough.
