How were these lawn care prices collected?

We read the price pages of 26 lawn care companies in 19 states on October 15, 2026 and recorded each price as the company publishes it. A range counts at its midpoint and a “from” price at its starting figure; where a sale price sat beside a struck-through regular price, the regular price counts. Pages quoting area averages instead of the company’s own prices are left out.

Lot size is where comparisons go wrong. Some companies price by lot acreage (Darling Lawn Care, Mowhit, Three Timbers), some by lawn square footage (G&G Garden and Lawn Care, Alamo Mowing, Quality Lawn Care) and a few by small, medium and large in words. The table groups them as closely as the published sizes allow; the full list shows each price as written.

What does a weekly mow cost on a quarter-acre lot?

The median is $51 a cut across 6 companies, and the middle half charge $46–$52. The spread is narrow: Darling Lawn Care in McLean, Virginia, lists $42–$46, ProV near Orlando $45, Mowhit in Knoxville $45–$55, and Alamo Mowing in San Antonio $60 for lots up to 10,000 sq ft.

Hills, trees and gates move the price more than the state does. Mowhit charges $45–$55 for a typical quarter acre and $60–$65 for a hilly or tree-heavy one, and Darling’s list applies to flat yards only. Quote the yard you see, not the acreage on the county record.

What do small lawns and large lots cost?

Small lawns up to about 5,000 sq ft run a median $42 across 8 companies, from $35 at Whitworth Boys in Spokane to $95 at Quality Lawn Care in Albuquerque, which prices by turf area and hauls or mulches the clippings. Half-acre lots run $57–$80 across 4 companies, and the two with a one-acre price charge $80–$100 (Mowhit) and $92 (Three Timbers).

Each extra tenth of an acre adds less than the first one. Three Timbers in the southwest Twin Cities charges $40 for a 0.1-acre lot, and each tenth after that adds $3–$8, reaching $92 at a full acre. The first tenth carries the drive, unloading and trimming; the rest is mostly mowing time.

Does every-other-week mowing cost more per cut?

Yes. 5 companies publish both prices, and an every-other-week cut costs a median 20% more than a weekly one. Grassbusters near Denver charges $50 weekly and $75 every other week; Alamo Mowing adds $5 a cut on a medium lot ($60 to $65). Two weeks of growth takes longer to cut and leaves more clippings to clean up.

One-time cuts cost more again. Alamo charges its $65 base rate for a first cut on a small lot against $50 weekly, Growing and Mowing in Jacksonville $88 against $57, and Grassbusters $150 for an on-demand mow. A weekly route is cheaper per cut because the lawn never gets ahead of you.

What minimum do lawn care companies charge?

Three publish a minimum: $40 at G&G Garden and Lawn Care in Sarasota and Lawn Harmony in Columbus, and $30 at Neighborhood Lawn Legends in Boise. Others open their lists in the same place: Dallas Lawn King from $25 a weekly cut, Trusted Trims in Salt Lake City $39.99 for lawns of 3,000 sq ft and under.

A minimum near $40 fits a tight route where the next stop is a few minutes away. If your stops are spread out, set it higher and say on the quote that it is the least a visit costs.

What does a mowing price include?

Mowing, string trimming, edging and blowing off hard surfaces are in nearly every listing; bagging and haul-off are where companies differ. Whitworth Boys hauls clippings as part of the cut and Quality Lawn Care hauls or mulches them, while Mowhit and Dallas Lawn King charge extra for bagging and Darling Lawn Care says bagging can change the price.

Monthly plans hide the per-cut price. G&G bills $129 a month year-round for its smallest lawns, Sal & Bros in Chula Vista $100–$150 a month for every-other-week mowing, and Outdoor Splendor in Pennsylvania from $185 a month on a 12-payment membership. To compare, divide the year’s bill by the cuts it includes.

How should you use these numbers to set your own price?

Start from the median for the lot size, then price the yard: slope, obstacles, gates and the drive from your last stop. If your quarter-acre price is under $46, you are cheaper than about three quarters of these companies; check that trimming, edging, blowing and drive time are all paid for.

Then run the numbers in the calculator on this page with your own costs, and send the result as a quote.

What does each company publish?

Frequently asked questions

What should I charge to mow an acre?

The two companies here with a one-acre price charge $80–$100 a weekly cut (Mowhit, Knoxville) and $92 (Three Timbers, Minnesota). Both price a hilly or obstacle-heavy acre higher; Mowhit’s is $110–$130.

Should I charge more for a corner lot?

Alamo Mowing adds $5–$10 a cut for a corner house. A corner lot has more sidewalk and curb to edge, so price the extra edging rather than the address.

How current are these prices?

All were read on October 15, 2026. A few lists carry their own dates: Darling Lawn Care’s is dated March 1, 2026, and Quality Lawn Care’s is headed January 1, 2023 but is still the list it publishes.

Do these prices include sales tax?

Most pages do not say. Alamo Mowing, GreenGate Turf and Quality Lawn Care state that tax is added on top of the listed price.
