How much should you charge to mow one acre?
Most published prices for a weekly acre sit between $80 and $140 a cut, with trimming, edging and blowing included. The low end is a flat, open yard on a weekly route; the high end has slopes, trees and beds to work around. Mowhit’s own card shows the gap: $80–$100 for a typical acre, $110–$130 for a hilly one.
An acre is 43,560 sq ft, but the grass you cut is less once the house, driveway, beds and trees take their share. Price the turf and the trim lines you walk, not the lot size on the deed.
Does the price per acre drop on bigger lots?
Yes. The first part of any lot carries the drive, unloading and trim work, so each extra part adds less. Three Timbers charges $57 for half an acre and $92 for a full acre, so the second half adds $35; Mowhit’s half acre is $55–$70 against $80–$100 for the full acre.
For two acres and up, price from your own time on the mower. Time a known acre with your machine, then scale the mowing part and measure the trimming separately; a wide deck and an open field change the hours far more than the acreage does.
What makes an acre cost more to mow?
Slope, trees, beds and gates. Every tree ring and bed edge is string-trimmer time, a steep bank may need a walk-behind, and a narrow gate can keep the big mower out of the back. Darling Lawn Care in Virginia prices flat yards only and says hills, bagging and small gates change the price.
Frequency matters too. Companies that publish both prices charge a median 20% more per cut for every-other-week service than for weekly, because two weeks of growth takes longer to cut and leaves more clippings.
How do you quote an acre you have not walked?
Measure the turf on a county parcel map or satellite view, subtract the house, drive and beds, and note every tree ring and fence line you will trim. Quote per cut with the frequency named, and say that the price is confirmed after the first visit.
Charge the first cut separately if the grass is long. Published first-cut and one-time prices run well above weekly ones; Alamo Mowing charges its base rate for the first cut and drops to the frequency price after.
Three worked prices
Each price is one weekly cut at a rate inside a company’s published range for that lot.
A typical acre. One weekly cut at $90, inside Mowhit’s $80–$100 range for a typical acre.

A hilly acre with trees. One weekly cut at $120, inside Mowhit’s $110–$130 range for a hilly or tree-heavy acre.
Weekly cut, 1 acre, hilly: 1 cut × $120 = $120.

Frequently asked questions
How much should I charge to mow 2 acres?
None of the companies here publishes a two-acre price; most quote large lots after a visit. Time one acre with your own mower, double the mowing part, and add the trimming you actually measured.
Should I charge by the acre or by the hour?
By the cut for regular customers, which is how every company here publishes; by the hour for first cuts, overgrown lots and field mowing where the time is hard to guess.
Does an acre with no trimming cost less?
It should. An open field with no beds, trees or fences is mostly mower time, and Mowhit’s own card prices a hilly or tree-heavy acre $30 above a typical one.
