How to price fall gutter cleaning before winter

Price fall gutters by the foot and the story: HomeGuide’s November 2025 bands run $0.50–$1.50 per foot for one story, $0.75–$2 for two and $1.25–$2.50 for three or more. None of the published cards adds a fall premium. Wet, packed leaves cost you time, so price that time into the rate, not a season label.

When should you schedule a fall gutter clean?

Build the appointment around the property’s leaf drop and the work the customer needs now. A blocked outlet may need attention before the last leaves fall; a final cleanup can follow later. Name which visit you are quoting instead of promising that one early-season clean will keep a wooded property clear through winter.

Record nearby trees, the roof valleys that feed the gutters and any past overflow points. Those details help explain why the customer might want a later check. Keep a second visit as an optional, separately priced scope unless it is already part of the accepted package.

How do wet leaves and gutter guards change the work?

Allow for the time to remove compacted debris, reach the outlets and handle cleanup. The footage tells you the amount of gutter; the condition tells you how much work is packed into that length. Describe heavy buildup in the quote and include the equipment and disposal your method needs.

For guarded gutters, identify whether the cover must be removed and refitted or cleaned in place. Check access to the outlet and the work needed beneath the cover. Keep repairs to clips or damaged sections separate from ordinary cleaning unless you have inspected and priced them.

What should the fall service leave finished?

Name gutter clearing, downspout flow checks and debris removal in the scope. Sparkle’s Chicago North Shore service includes clearing, flushing, cleanup and photos; Richmond Gutter Cleaners also includes flushing and debris removal. Those service descriptions give the customer a better comparison than a price per foot alone.

Record where a downspout discharges and whether the quoted work stops at ground level. A blocked underground drain, leaking seam or damaged hanger needs its own work description. Photograph any problem you find and agree its repair before changing the cleaning total.

How do you keep a busy fall route profitable?

Cost the complete stop: paid work, ladder or lift setup, travel, supplies, cleanup and equipment overhead. Include your own pay and the cost of weather delays in the capacity you plan to sell. Divide the job cost by one minus your target margin, then check that price against the published height bands.

Use actual travel savings for nearby jobs. A route discount should leave the cleaning and cleanup time funded. Set a minimum for stand-alone trips, and keep a record of the footage, access and time so next fall’s repeat quote is based on the property rather than memory.

Three worked prices

The example rates sit inside HomeGuide’s stated height bands. Multiply the measured gutter length by the selected rate before applying your own visit minimum.

A single-story final leaf cleanup. 180 linear feet at $1.25 per foot, including ordinary clearing, flow checks and cleanup.

Single-story gutter cleaning: 180 linear feet × $1.25 = $225.

Example total: $225. Rate source: HomeGuide: gutter cleaning cost, checked 2026-10-15.

Two-story gutters with ordinary access. 180 linear feet at $2 per foot, the upper end of the cited two-story band.

Two-story gutter cleaning: 180 linear feet × $2 = $360.

Example total: $360. Rate source: HomeGuide: gutter cleaning cost, checked 2026-10-15.

A short upper-level run. 90 linear feet at $2.50 per foot, inside the three-or-more-story band. Equipment and the visit minimum still need to fit your own job costs.

Upper-level gutter cleaning: 90 linear feet × $2.50 = $225.

Example total: $225. Rate source: HomeGuide: gutter cleaning cost, checked 2026-10-15.

Frequently asked questions

Should fall gutter cleaning cost more than spring cleaning?

Price the work that differs: leaf buildup, access, guards, blocked outlets and cleanup. None of the cards we checked charges a fall premium. If the leaves add an hour, the hour goes in the price and the scope says why.

Do I wait until every leaf has fallen?

Schedule around the property’s current condition and leaf drop. If an outlet is already blocked, an earlier visit can be quoted separately from a final cleanup. State which result and visit the customer is buying.

Should I include a winter return visit?

Include it only when the package names the check, access and work covered. Otherwise offer a separate follow-up. A cleaning quote should not silently promise unlimited visits for new debris or unrelated drainage problems.

How do I quote gutters behind a sunroom?

Record the access route and equipment needed to reach that run. Keep fragile or obstructed areas in the site notes and allow for the setup. Price from the working method you can actually use at that property.

Does flushing include an underground downspout drain?

State the boundary. Ordinary downspout flow checks can end at the ground-level outlet. Underground drain clearing, excavation or replacement is a separate scope when it is needed; name and price that work before starting it.

What photos should accompany a fall gutter quote?

Show the roofline, access, guards, heavy debris and any visible overflow or damage. Mark the runs included in the footage. After cleaning, use completion photos to show the agreed areas and problems left for a separate repair.
