Use a relative reference for the value that should move down each row and an absolute reference for the one shared tax rate.

Example: if item prices are in B2:B20 and the tax rate is stored once in F1, enter `=B2*$F$1` in C2. When copied to C3, B2 changes to B3, but $F$1 stays fixed.

Try it without looking: quantity is in A2, unit price in B2, and one discount rate is in H1. Write a formula for the discounted row total that can be copied downward.

Answer when ready: `=A2*B2*(1-$H$1)`.

The example connects the notation to its purpose, then tests whether the learner can transfer the pattern to a new formula.
